Widowed Support Groups
Facing the Challenges of Widowhood Together
Losing a partner is one of life’s most profound losses. Alongside intense grief, widowhood brings unexpected challenges navigating a new reality, redefining identity, and finding connection amidst change.
At Grief Connect®, we understand these complexities and offer two dedicated peer support groups:
Young Widowed Support Group – A compassionate space for those who have lost a partner at a younger age, helping navigate the unique struggles that come with early widowhood.
Over 55s Widowed Support Group – A supportive community for those who have lost a spouse after many years, offering connection and guidance through later-life transitions.
Both groups provide a safe, understanding environment where you can connect online and support each other through the ups and downs of grief. Face-to-face catch-ups are also organised, giving members the opportunity to meet in person, share experiences, and build new friendships.
Together, we navigate widowhood with compassion, strength, and connection.
Support for young widows
Becoming a widow at a young age brings profound and lasting changes, especially if the loss was sudden or if young children are involved.
Our Young Widowed Support Group offers a supportive, non-judgmental space where members discuss:
Rediscovering yourself and navigating life’s new normal
Parenting young children and explaining loss in a way they understand
Talking to children about death with honesty and care
Repartnering and exploring new relationships after loss
Managing cognitive impacts like “widow fog” and emotional overwhelm
Navigating significant dates such as anniversaries, birthdays, and your partner’s passing date
Understanding complex emotions—anger, guilt, trauma, and unexpected grief responses
Celebrating happy memories and milestones together
Through open and supportive discussions, members find understanding, reassurance, and guidance to move forward while honoring their loved one’s legacy.

It gave me hope again
‘After my late partner Nathan died in 2018, I felt so isolated in my grief, despite having strong support from my family and community. So four months after Nathan’s death, I founded the Grief Connect® Young Widowed Support Group – an online support group with in-person catch ups. The connections I made with other widowed people for me were life changing. I realised that I was not alone in my grief, and that there were other people who had survived the death of their person, had embraced hope and created a new normal in their life. This journey lead to the creation of the Over 55s group extending that same support to all widowed people. Because grief should never be faced alone. Here, you are surrounded by people who truly “get it”, walking beside you as you navigate this new chapter of life.
