My “Why”. The Reason Grief Connect® Exists.

🟣 Meet Nathan AKA Stretchy (6″4). Nathan’s life, and my grief following his early death, is the reason Grief Connect® exists. Nathan and I have a very cool love story. One of teenage romance, some craziness, fun and learning how to ‘adult’ together. We worked hard. Nath was a FIFO miner, he worked on the digger but if you knew him well, you would know that his favorite machine was the dozer, driving it on all kinds of hectic angles, safely (apparently!).
🟣Long story short, Nath and I broke up mid 20s. We both lived other lives and both did a lot of travel in this time. I remained living in London for 4 years but eventually returned to Australia.
🟣After some years, we rekindled our friendship. The connection was always strong and we got back together and decided not to waste any more time and have our son together.
🟣We lived a great life. Friends, family, BBQs, boating, camping, fishing and also we were navigating parenthood! Neither of us perfect, but enjoying life and living what many would say was the Australian dream.
🟣My world was shattered the moment Nathan died. The loneliness and social isolation accompanied by the depths of despair, sadness and missing him was overwhelming. But I hung in there. Hour by hour, I pushed through.
Hours turned to days, days turned to weeks.
🟣Life moved forward for me and brought new light and love my way. Life, grief and being a proud AASW Accredited Social Worker has also also brought me fierce determination to make a difference in the grief sector. Personally, I continue to live life to the fullest because that’s what Nathan would have wanted me to do, and because I also value living life to the fullest.
🟣These days my grief has eased, it feels lighter. I know how to manage it when it rears up. I have some super amazing people around me that support me and believe in my work.
🟣It is now my purpose, my mission, and my meaning to provide Grief Connect® support services to our grieving communities.
🟣My vision is that sharing my story with the world reduces that awful sense of social isolation that grief can bring and improves the mental health outcomes for Australians; that no one grieves alone.
