Grief. Widowed People Living Across Australia = 1,029,142
🟣We would never have believed you in this picture if you told us Nathan’s fate. Life was exciting, we were happy and in love.Â
🟣Young widowhood at age 38, it’s not how I pictured my life to roll. I believed tragedy like that didn’t happen to me…… And then it did.
🟣Founding the Grief Connect® Young Widowed Support Group is what became my connection to hope, and to future. Connecting with other widowed people helped me to understand that what I was going through was a widowhood grief process and normalised the extremes of the rollercoaster ride. The “that is what I experience too, so it’s not just me” affect, is so helpful.
🟣I started the group 4 months after Nathan died, with a membership of 4. I remember the membership growing to 30, and thinking, “wow, 30 young widowed people, that’s so many of us”.
🟣It turns out there are 1, 029, 142 widowed people living across Australia. Yes, that’s over one million widowed people according to Census 2021. I was shocked when I found out this statistic and it reinforced that I needed to do more to address the gap in bereavement services.Â
🟣So help me in my drive to connect the widowed community to the Grief Connect® Widowed Support Groups. If you know of a widowed person, please tell them about the Grief Connect® Young and Over 55s Widowed Support Groups.
🟣It’s never too soon after a death to tell someone about the groups. Sharing information will arm them with knowledge that support is out there and that they are not alone in their grief.
🟣You will be a great support to them in sharing the website link www.griefconnect.com.au so when they are ready, they can join a group if they feel it will be helpful.
